Biography

Stephen Butler began a lectureship at Loughborough University in July 2015. He leads a research group focussing on the synthesis of luminescent host molecules capable of binding nucleoside polyphosphate (NPP) anions, for the purpose of monitoring enzymatic reactions and visualising biochemical processes in living cells. Before joining Loughborough, Stephen held a RamsayFellowship at Durham University(2013–2015) developing tripodal receptors for the selective detectionof ATP. He has 10 years of doctoral/postdoctoral experience in organic, inorganic and peptide synthesis, anion receptor design and biological study of optical probes. He completed a PhD with Prof. Kate Jolliffe (Sydney, 2010) and two subsequent PDRA positions with Prof. Richard Payne (Sydney, 2011) and Prof. David Parker FRS (Durham, 2011–2013).
