Biography

Steve obtained an MChem degree from the University of Oxford (Sir Prof Jack Baldwin), PhD in natural product synthesis at Imperial College (Prof. Tony Barrett) and carried out postdoctoral work with at the University of Edinburgh (Prof. David Leigh). In 2008 he moved to Queen Mary first as a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow, then Royal Society University Research Fellow. In 2014 the Goldup Group moved to the University of Southampton where Steve took up the position of Associate Professor and was subsequently promoted to Professor of Chemistry (2017). Research in the Goldup Group focusses on the synthesis of novel mechanically interlocked molecules and their application as sensors, catalysts and materials.
